The data traffic in the cloud will grow by 6 times in 2016

Cisco announces its second annual Cisco Global Cloud Index, the traffic cloud will grow six times in the period evaluated. In this report, Cisco advances that traffic of data center worldwide will grow four times and will reach a total of 6.6 zettabytes annually in 2016.

The company also predicts that the overall traffic in the cloud, the fastest growing traffic of global data center will grow six times, 44% of the combined annual growth rate (CAGR) of 683 exabytes of annual traffic in 2013 4.3 zettabytes in 2016.

Note that the figure of 6.6 zettabytes is equivalent to:

  • 92 trillions of hours of streamed music: about year and a half of music continuously transmitted to the world population in 2016.
  • 16 trillions of hours of web conferencing business: about 12 hours of Web conferencing professionals worldwide in 2016.
  • 7 trillion daily broadcasting hours for high-definition video (HD) Online: about two and a half hours of high definition video (HD) for the world population in 2016 transmission.

Most of the traffic in data center is not generated by end users but by the data centers and workloads in the cloud calculated and used in virtual activities that are invisible to end users. Cisco expects that approximately 76 percent of data center traffic will continue within the center itself will be generated and the storage, production and development data. An additional 7 percent of traffic data center will be generated between data centers, primarily by replication of data and software / systems. The remaining 17 percent of data center traffic will be fueled by end users accessing clouds for browsing web , email and video transmission .

Areas, the Cisco Global Cloud study predicts growth Index highest traffic in the cloud it generated Middle East and Africa, while Asia Pacific will have the largest workloads in the cloud hosting services, followed by North America.
